Dr Roni Mermelshtine
I am a BACP-registered integrative psychotherapist and developmental psychologist, working with adults and young people both in Hackney, East London, and online.
Whatever has brought you to this page, I'm glad you're here. Perhaps something feels stuck, perhaps you're carrying more than you'd like to admit, or perhaps you're not quite sure where to start. My aim is to offer a space where you can slow down, be properly understood, and work out what's actually going on beneath the surface.
Background and Training
I hold a PhD in developmental psychology from Birkbeck, University of London, alongside clinical training in counselling and psychotherapy from the University of East London. This combination means my work is grounded both in research on how people develop, think, and form relationships, and in hands-on clinical practice with real people navigating real difficulties.
"Integrative" means I don't work from a single fixed model. Working relationally, I often draw on psychodynamic and person-centred approaches, sometimes more reflective and exploratory, sometimes more structured, always shaped around the individual rather than a set protocol.
I work with both adults and young people aged 12 and over which means I bring a developmental lens to everything I do: understanding not just where someone is now, but how they got there, and what's needed to move forward.
Who I work with?
-
Adults - I support people facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, workplace challenges, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Some come with a specific issue they want to work through in a shorter, time-limited way; others prefer longer-term, open-ended work. Both are welcome, and we don't have to decide which suits you at the outset.
-
Young people (12-18) - I offer creative, child-led support for adolescents navigating school pressure, identity, family change, emotional regulation, or simply feeling like something isn't quite right. Sessions are paced around building trust, and parents are kept appropriately informed without compromising their teenager's confidentiality.
My approach
Therapy with me is collaborative, not prescriptive. I won't tell you what to do or hand you a generic framework, instead, we'll build a shared understanding of your situation together, at a pace that respects where you're starting from.
I bring genuine care and attention to everyone I work with, alongside the clinical grounding to make that care useful, not just well-intentioned.
Getting started
If you're considering therapy for yourself or a young person, a 20-minute discovery call is a low-pressure way to talk through what's going on and see whether working together feels right.
